A promenade, floating on the artificial island of Odaiba like a barge, represents the design’s basic concept. The result of the design allows for a cost-efficient structural system as well as distinctive experiences inside and outside. The Venus Fort is designed as a destination center with a distinct South France and Italian flavor that contains a collection of outlet shops, in one of the largest shopping complexes in Asia. The period following its opening was an immediate success – becoming the most popular shopping mall in Asia in each of the first three years, with 23 million visitors in the first year. Originally planned as a ten-year project – the success of the Venus Fort has called for the continued operation of another ten years.
